How Do You Handle A Bad Day?

How Do You Handle A Bad Day?

Bad days are truly inevitable.

Some days you may wake up and just have that feeling. That feeling that you’re just not 100% ready for the day.

You slept poorly last night, your back is sore, your mental psyche is just not where you want it to be at the moment, etc., etc.

Or you may be experiencing some adversity where things just really aren’t going your way.

You burnt your morning toast.

You hit some traffic on your way to work.

The people you encounter throughout the day just aren’t the friendliest “chaps” to ever walk the face of the Earth.

Either way, you’d much rather be back in bed with a good book or your favorite TV show playing in the background.

How do I personally handle this kind of day?

I simply take a deep breath and accept it. Yup, just take it all in with open arms.

Why?

Because it’s all temporary.

Not only this, but all of that BS you’re experiencing is either 1, not in your control, or 2, truly just in your head.

Everything that happens to you is neutral.

It’s how you react to them that determines whether it’s good or bad.

Half of the crap that’s bothering you, anyway, are truly external conflicts that are out of your control.

It’s your mind sabotaging you into thinking it’s “life-ending" when it’s truly not.

Plus… It is not your responsibility to worry about the attitudes and lives of random strangers you encounter day to day.

I often like to step back and realize that there are truly great things in my life to be grateful for.

1. Good health (mentally & physically)

2. The food I have access to

3. The clothes on my back

4. The roof over my head

5. The relationships I’ve made & get to continue to make

etc.

Get the point?

This seemingly “bad day” is so minuscule compared to someone else in the world who’s actually lacking one of the five things listed above, and truly is experiencing a tough patch in their life.

I’ll say it again, the minor inconveniences we’re experiencing during a “bad day” are temporary.

And… Good days are just as inevitable as bad days are.

What else…?

Reset your realistic expectations

Expectations can have a huge impact on mood.

If I expect my flight to be canceled and it’s only three hours delayed, then I’m going to be thrilled.

But if I expect it to be on time and then it’s delayed, then I’m going to be upset.

Get it?

A lot of bad days start when you have unrealistic expectations about what you can accomplish.

I like to break my days into 3 “chapters”: Morning, Mid-Day, and Night.

If something makes me upset in the Morning “chapter”, accept it and don’t let it ruin the next 2 “chapters” of your day.

🏁 In the end…

You only get so much time on this Earth, don’t let little inconveniences waste that precious time.

Accept the bad day at the start.

Express gratitude for the great things you do have in life.

Shift your expectations.

Break your day into “chapters” and never let one bad “chapter” ruin the rest of your “book”.

Be well.

Until Next Time, C.
